All the herbal remedies you will find on this page are made according to traditional methods by the medical herbalists of Botanica Medica. Our herbal remedies very carefully formulated and safe to use when recommended by one of our highly qualified medical herbalists.
Bathing Therapies
During Victorian times, herbal medicines were associated with “taking the waters”, and for thousands of years, herbs have been prescribed in warm baths. Our range of therapeutic bathing salts reflects this long history of absorbing the therapeutics of plants through the skin by soaking in herbal baths.
- Arnica Bath– Absolutely fabulous for bruises, post-operative recovery or after childbirth.
- Calendula Oat Bath – A wonderful skin softening and healing bath, especially helpful for childhood eczema, or dry itchy skin.
- Mustard Bath – Our most popular bath salts. Soothes tender muscles, aids detoxification, relaxes muscles, improves sleep, decongests the sinuses and comforts a cold.
- Oak Bath – Tones and soothes swollen legs, varicose veins & haemorrhoids.
- Rose Petal Bath – This is a delightful gift for someone special, especially if they are suffering from a broken heart. Made with pink Himalayan rock salt - said to be the purest salt on earth, precious rose essential oils and a rose quartz stone as a keepsake.
- Pine Bath – Dead Sea Salts loaded with decongesting essential oils make this the perfect bath for congested sinuses and lungs.
- Detox bath – This bath combines the purity of Himalayan rock salt and the high mineral content of Dead Sea Salts with essential oils chosen to stimulate flushing of toxins from the tissues. It can also be mixed with a little oil and used as an excellent body scrub to help reduce cellulite.
Herbal Elixirs
- Elixir of Artemisia – This preparation promotes digestion and relieves the feeling of bloating and should be taken post or prior to meals.
- Elixir of Elderberries – A warming anti-viral immune tonic mixed with Echinacea. It is wonderfully comforting when added to boiling water and drunk as hot as possible.
- Elixir of Myrrh – A powerful mouthwash to use for mouth ulcers and oral care.
Herbal Infusions
Ant-Inflam Tea – These herbs reduce tissue inflammation and facilitate the removal of lactic acid from injured muscles. Wonderful relief is enhanced when combined with a hot Mustard Bath. See under Bathing Therapies.
- B.P. Tea – A traditional blend of herbs used to lower blood pressure.
- Digest Tea – Improves digestion whilst reducing spasm and bloating. You may also consider Elixir of Artemisia to enhance digestion and relieve bloating.
- Essiac Formulae – Made according to Rene Caisse’s original formulae.
- Hair Tonic – A traditional blend of herbs used as a final rinse, which provides natural nutrition to prevent falling hair, and improve the healthy beauty of your hair.
- Linseed Lax – The seeds and herbal powders naturally encourage regular bowel movements, whilst sweeping away old sticky faecal matter from the colon wall. We suggest adding our Optibac probiotic to further improve the bowel environment.
- Lung Tea – Contains anti-bacterial and mucus loosing herbs which have an affinity for the lungs. Mustard Bath is a great accompaniment.
- My Nerves! – This tea gently calms fraught nerves and helps to restore
mental harmony without inducing doziness.
- Period Pain Tea – Cramp bark and ginger very quickly soothe cramping pain,
whilst the Linden blossom adds welcome calm to the blend.
- Runny Tummy – To use with short term diarrhoea. Excellent when
combined with DiarSafe probiotics. Contact your herbalist if symptoms persist.
- Sinus Tea – This tea is made up of herbs which reduce inflammation in the
sinuses and helps to shift excess catarrh.
- SleepiTime Tea – This tea has been known to make people dose off even before they have finished drinking the infusion. Wake up feeling deeply rested.
- Temperature Tea – A traditional herbal blend for fevers and colds. The herbs dilates the blood capillaries to cool the fever, whilst stimulating the immune system. You might like to use Mustard Bath to enhance the effect.
- Tender Tummy Tea – Effectively soothes a tender inflamed digestive tract.
- WeeTea – Contains herbs used to treat mild cystitis. If symptoms persist, please talk to a herbalist who can prescribe a stronger herbal formula.
- Yeast Tea – This anti-fungal herbal tea is a good start to controlling yeast
overgrowth, especially when combined with an excellent probiotic.
Herbal Creams and Unguents
- ArnicaPlus – Packed with Arnica and Wintergreen, this crème is superb at relieving local pain and bruising.
- Chickweed crème – Our much loved crème used to soothe and moisturise inflamed and itchy skin.
- Herp-Ease – Over the years many people have reported how effective this crème is in helping to prevent cold-sores, sun blisters and herpes flare-ups.
- Mallows & Aloes –A soothing crème with extracts of marshmallow, aloe vera and chamomile making an excellent balm for hot itchy skin conditions.
- Pain Rubbing Ointment– Composed entirely of essential oils and bees wax, this potent rubbing ointment warms and relieve sprains, painful muscles and creaky joints. A little goes a very long way.
- Roses Mallows & Aloes – Our most popular crème. Precious rose essential oil, high concentrations of Vitamin E, deeply nourishing Aloe vera and Macadamia oil which mimics our natural skin oils makes this wonderful crème deeply nourishing for the skin.
- Scar Salve – Vitamin E and Gotu kola promotes the healing of skin tissues, and effectively reduces redness and scar tissue. Useful for stretch marks, acne scars and surgery or injury scar tissue.
- Spot Salve – Contains herbal extracts which disinfect the skin, reduce scar formation and dry excess sebum production.
- TeaTree Gel – Great for thrush and fungal infections of the skin.
- WartsBeGone – We have used this successfully for years to treat warts,
verrucas and molluscum contagiosum.
- Rose Water – This Rose water is the best quality we have ever found. It is
simply pure Damascus rose and spring water, and is superb for cooling hot itchy eyes during the hayfever season, or as a refreshing skin tonic.
Medicated Shampoo’s
- Stimulating – A herbal shampoo which improves blood flow to the scalp, whilst providing enriching minerals to help support hair growth.
- Medicated – A French country recipe traditionally used for itchy flaky scalp
conditions such as dandruff and psoriasis.
- Soothing – A herbal shampoo with anti-inflammatory herbal extracts to soothe sore scalp conditions.
Pessaries & Suppositories
- TeaTree Pessaries – Naturally reduces fungal growth in the vagina and bowel.
- Suppositories for Piles – For internal haemorrhoids (Piles).
Herbal Capsules
Our herbal capsules are made in the apothecaries by the herbalists. The capsules are vegetarian and filled with pure herbal powders. There are no fillers, and no chemicals.
- Agnus castus Capsules – Used since ancient times to rebalance female hormones and reduce male hormones – hence its common name “Chaste Berry”.
- Ant-Inflam Capsules –Packed with anti-inflammatory herbs to relieve painful inflamed joints.
- Candicaps – Powerful anti-fungal capsules.
- DetoxCaps – Facilitates the removal of deep cellular toxins. We suggest combining with Milk Thistle Complex and Detox Bath.
- Garlic Capsules – Garlic is a superb anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-
fungal herb. It is the smelly component of the garlic which does the work, so deodorised garlic is useless. Our capsules are non-deodorised pure powdered garlic, but because the herb is only released in the stomach – you breath will not smell.
- IBS Capsules – Formulated to relax spasms in the gut.
- Milk Thistle Complex – A complex of herbs to support the liver and detoxification.
- Raspberry Leaf Capsules – Traditionally used in the last three months of pregnancy to prepare the uterine muscles for birth.
- SawPalmetto Capsules – Very popular amongst our male patients, helping to support prostate health.
- St John’s Wort - St John’s Wort is not only an excellent anti-depressant, it is also anti-viral and a liver tonic. Very helpful for depression, shingles and injured nerves.
- Valerian Complex – Deeply calming herbs which relieve anxiety and allow a deeper sleep.
Tinctures & Glycerites
The vast majority of our Tinctures, Elixirs and Glycerites are made on site by the herbalists. We prefer to make our own medicines as we love the quality that we are able to produce by making small batches of herbal extracts in the traditional hand made methods. We also use as many fresh plants as we are able to harvest, as this produces the most vital herbal medicines. There is a certain satisfaction for all of us in the cycle of collecting the herbs, making the medicine, witnessing its healing effect on our patients, and finally returning the exhausted herb from the extraction process back to the earth.
For Children and Babies:
- Colic Glycerite – One of our most popular products. It works very quickly to soothe screaming colic.
- Immune Glycerite – A gentle immune tonic for children with anti-viral, immune stimulating and bronchial disinfecting actions.
- Nasty Cough Glycerite – These herbs help to clear the infection and sticky mucus from the lungs.

Botanical Vapours & Drops
In France, the doctors tend to use essential oils differently to the way we do in Britain. They will use them internally and at very high potencies. In 2008, Jo went to France to study advanced clinical aromatherapy with two of the world renowned essential oil consultants living in France. The range of Botanical vapours is the result of that endeavour.
Vapours
The botanical vapours are contained within a sniff-stick, which is small, very discreet and easy to use.

Drops
- Anti-Viral Drops – Another of our most popular products. These drops are so powerfully anti-viral that they just stop a cold from progressing. They should always be followed with an immune tonic.
- Gut Fermentation Drops – A pungent blend of essential which help to rid the intestines of unhealthy bacteria, and soothe excessive rumblings and gas. Should be followed by a course of probiotics.
- Bronchial Chest Rub - A rich oil to be rubbed on the chest and back during a respiratory infection. The essential oils dilate the airways, reduce inflammation and break down sticky mucus.
