Eileen Folan - Medical Herbalist

Eileen graduated as a Medical Herbalist with a BSc (Hons) from the University of Westminster. She is also a qualified Nutritional Therapist and has been in practice since 2009. Eileen’s interest in holistic health began whilst working in a non- medical role at BUPA, focused on understanding people’s health preferences and how these were met by orthodox medical systems.

Since leaving BUPA Eileen has enjoyed exploring the holistic world of natural medicine and training as a practitioner. Eileen enjoys working with clients to help them to find out how herbs can help them to maintain and restore health. A full consultation with Eileen will include a discussion of your current health issues in the context of your health history, lifestyle and diet. She will then agree an individual treatment plan with you.

Eileen is passionate about the role of food and herbs in maintaining good health. Dietary advice is integral to Eileen’s Herbal Medicine treatment plans, but some clients may prefer to book a Nutritional Therapy consultation for a detailed personal nutrition plan. Eileen is happy to discuss which route is best suited to your needs.

Julie McCollum - Acupuncture

Julie has a BSc (Hons) degree in acupuncture from the University of Westminster.

Julie McCollum’s decision to study acupuncture was brought about from personal use with acupuncture as a means of pain relief and as a system of healing for musculoskeletal injuries while dancing. Acupuncture is a safe treatment and used by people for specific symptoms or conditions. It originated in China and has been practiced for thousands of years. A treatment can consist of stimulating acupuncture points with fine acupuncture needles, massage, heat (with moxibustion – a herb) or cupping. These methods are used to encourage the body’s healing response by stimulating Qi, often translated as energy. The treatment is focussed on balancing and improving a person’s overall well being, considering every aspect of a person’s lifestyle, state of health and medical history for each session. It is widely considered to be beneficial for a range of illnesses and symptoms. The recommended treatment is usually a minimum of 6 acupuncture sessions. However each person is unique and therefore the number of treatments will vary with one’s healing response. Julie is available on Thursday afternoons, evenings in St Margaret's.

Ralph Mitchell - Chiropractictor

Mc Timoney and KST Chiropracticor, Ralph Mitchell qualified from the McTimoney Chiropractic College (Oxford) in 1998 and has been in full time practice since then. Ralph has long been a fan of low-force chiropractic and of a holistic approach. ‘I believe in using the minimum force necessary to get the job done; that way we’re not introducing any extra stress into the system.’

The McTimoney training gave a wonderful grounding in low-force work and the development of palpation skills and it was not until meeting Dr. Tedd Koren in 2004 and experiencing his cutting edge technique called KST (Koren Specific Technique) that Ralph started to move on from using McTimoney.

Tedd held his inaugural KST training in May 2005 in Philadelphia PA, USA, and Ralph was there! KST is a unique approach to patient care, there is no twisting, 'cracking' or 'popping' of joints with KST; instead, gentle, specific corrections are made to the spine and structural system. The body is likely to hold its correction for much longer. Helpful in treating many painful conditions, and subtler imbalances, it is safe for all age-groups.
